The Ruwer Valley

A unique location
The Ruwer is a tributary of the Moselle. It rises at Rösterkopf in the Hochwald forest, flows through Kell am See, past Heid Castle and Kasel, and flows into the Moselle in Trier.
The first settlement in the Ruwer Valley dates back to 600 BC. Around 100 BC, the Romans introduced viticulture to the Ruwer Valley.
The Ruwer River is part of the Moselle wine-growing region, which encompasses the Moselle, Saar, and Ruwer rivers. The Ruwer Valley is the smallest of the three river valleys and produces extremely mineral and light Riesling wines, thanks to the dark slate soil and the comparatively coolest microclimate of the three river valleys.
