Weinflasche Wappen_edited.png

Since 1670, and thus for more than 350 years, our family has been dedicated to the art of viticulture on the steep slate slopes of the Moselle and Ruwer.

The crowned "N"

The crowned "N" adorns all wines from our house.

The monogram with the symbolic crown represents the initial of the family name "Nell." As a brand emblem, it adorns every bottle and every cork.

Before the era of labels on bottles, corks served as the only distinguishing feature of goods.

In memory of this tradition, we remain true to this trademark to this day.

The Nell family coat of arms

The Nell family coat of arms shows two ears of corn and two marine mammals in a quartered shield.

The ears of corn symbolize the family's agricultural history; the fish are based on the coat of arms of the Irish O'Neills, the founding fathers of today's Nells.

Since the Nells were considered wealthy "raft lords" in addition to winemaking, Neptune, the god of flowing waters, symbolizes membership in this guild.

Christian Nell

Christian Nell, or more precisely Peter Christian von Nell, established the family's winemaking tradition in 1670. In 1709, he was ennobled for his services.

In addition to winemaking, he also ran his father's business as a raftsman and timber merchant on the Rhine.

As a skilled businessman, he quickly recognized the synergies between the two businesses and began exporting his wines to Holland, which allowed the wine business to grow successfully.

Today, his signature adorns every bottle of the house.
